The Wilder Kaiser is the dramatic limestone wall that rises directly above the SkiWelt villages of Ellmau and St. Johann in Tirol, reaching 2,344 meters at the Ellmauer Halt. In summer, hiking routes range from accessible valley walks to serious technical climbs on the north face. The Gruttenhütte mountain hut is 1.5-2 hours from Ellmau and sits directly below the main cliff. The range is a nature reserve; trails are marked and maintained. By train to St. Johann or Kufstein, then bus to the trailheads. Check wilderkaiser.info for current conditions.
