Ellmau sits directly below the Wilder Kaiser, one of the most dramatically vertical limestone walls in Tyrol, and serves as the primary access point to the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental ski area's 280 kilometers of connected piste. The village is the filming location for Der Bergdoktor, Austria's most-watched television series. In summer, the Wilder Kaiser massif offers maintained hiking trails with hut overnight options. Hotels are family-oriented and the village retains a traditional character. About 50 minutes from Innsbruck by car; bus connection from Wörgl on the main Innsbruck-Salzburg railway line.
