The World Museum Vienna (Weltmuseum Wien) in the Hofburg’s Neue Burg wing holds 200,000 ethnographic objects from Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas, reopened in 2017 with a modern exhibition design. The Aztec feather headdress (Penacho), a 16th-century object in the Habsburg collection since the 1520s, is the headline artifact, and the museum presents Mexico’s restitution request alongside Austria’s retention argument without obscuring the dispute.
