Vysehrad is a hilltop fortress above the Vltava south of Prague’s center, with the oldest building in Prague (Rotunda of St. Martin, 11th century, with a Prussian cannonball still lodged in the wall from 1757), wide views over the city, and a cemetery containing Dvorak, Smetana, Mucha, and 600 other Czech cultural figures. The grounds are free to enter and far less crowded than Prague Castle. Metro line C to Vysehrad station; the fortress is 5 minutes on foot from the metro exit.
