The Tristacher See is a natural forest lake on the slopes above Lienz, set against the Lienz Dolomites with water that reaches 24 degrees in summer. A circular walking path covers the lake in 30 minutes. Unlike the larger Carinthian lakes to the north, this one has stayed relatively undeveloped: forest and water without the beach infrastructure and crowds. The Parkhotel Tristachersee on the shore is a late-19th-century period piece worth a coffee stop. Drive or cycle up from Lienz; the lake is about 3 kilometers from the town center.
