The Tauernkarleitenalm is a traditional Alpine hut in the hiking circuit above Obertauern, one of the summer rest stops on the trails that cross the high plateau at around 1,700–1,900 meters. In summer, the ski resort’s terrain becomes a hiking network, and the mountain huts that once served apres-ski become trail-side Jause stops for walkers. Obertauern is about 90 minutes from Salzburg. The hut serves traditional Alpine food and drink; confirm opening dates with the Obertauern tourist office.
