Strandbad Alte Donau

The Strandbad Alte Donau is Vienna's oldest public lakeshore bathing institution, on a calm backwater separated from the main Danube by land reclamation in the 19th century. The Alte Donau (Old Danube) no longer carries river current, which makes it warm, calm, and clean enough for swimming in summer.

Strandbad Alte Donau at Arbeiterstrandbadstrasse 91 is Vienna’s oldest lakeshore bathing institution, on the calm Alte Donau (Old Danube) backwater that has been Vienna’s working-class summer destination since 1915. Swimming, boat rentals, and grassy banks within 15 minutes of the city center via U1 to Alte Donau station. Open late May through September; check wien.gv.at for current hours and entry pricing.
