Silvretta Stausee

The Silvretta Stausee is a high-altitude reservoir at 2,032 meters on the Bielerhöhe pass, the top of the Silvretta Hochalpenstrasse that connects the Montafon valley in Vorarlberg with the Paznaun valley in Tyrol.

The Silvretta Stausee is a reservoir at 2,032 meters on the Bielerhöhe pass at the top of the Silvretta Hochalpenstrasse, with the Piz Buin massif and Silvretta glacier visible above it. Completed in 1943 as part of the Montafon Illwerke hydroelectric system. A circular walk around the reservoir takes about 1 hour with minimal elevation change. The toll road is open May to November depending on snow; check current pass status and toll rates before driving. Access from Gaschurn in the Montafon or from the Paznaun valley.
