Silvretta Montafon is a 200-kilometer ski area above Schruns in the Montafon valley in Vorarlberg, operating since 1947. The area covers terrain from valley floor to 2,430 meters in the Silvretta range. Ernest Hemingway spent two winters here in 1925-1926 finishing The Sun Also Rises. Schruns is accessible by bus from Bludenz on the Arlberg rail line in about 30 minutes. Check silvretta-montafon.at for current season dates and passes.
