Freud’s apartment and practice at Berggasse 19 in Vienna’s 9th district, where he lived and worked from 1891 to 1938, is now a museum renovated and expanded in 2020. The famous psychoanalytic couch is not here: Freud took it to London when he fled the Nazis in 1938, and it remains there. The Vienna museum preserves the rooms, documents the development of psychoanalysis with original objects and letters, and addresses Freud’s forced departure directly. Open daily 10:00-18:00 (Thursday until 20:00); approximately EUR 14-16 adults. U-Bahn U2 to Schottentor, then 10 minutes walk.
