The Schwarzwassertal is a side valley in the Kleinwalsertal, the Austrian valley accessible only from Germany via Oberstdorf. The valley leads to the Schwarzwasserhütte Alpine hut and onward to the Hoher Ifen, a flat-topped limestone plateau unusual in the Allgäu Alps. Day hike from Riezlern in 2 to 3 hours; overnight stays at the hut with advance booking. Quieter than the main Kleinwalsertal and worth the extra approach for the plateau scenery above.
