The Schmugglerrunde is a hiking loop from Ischgl that crosses into Switzerland’s duty-free Samnaun enclave, following routes once used by actual smugglers moving goods across the Silvretta pass area between Austria and Switzerland. The hike is through alpine terrain in the Paznaun valley area; mid-June to mid-October seasonal access. Samnaun remains a duty-free zone, so the practical incentive of the original route partly survives. Check ischgl.com for current trail maps and conditions.

Schmugglerrunde
The Schmugglerrunde is a hiking loop from Ischgl that crosses into the Swiss duty-free enclave of Samnaun and back. The route follows the same paths used by smugglers for generations, moving goods across the Silvretta pass area between Austria and Switzerland during periods when the price differential made the risk worthwhile.
