The Schlegeis reservoir sits at 1,782 meters at the head of the Zamser Grund valley above Mayrhofen, surrounded by glacier-covered ridges above 3,000 meters. The turquoise glacial color and the dramatic mountain backdrop make it one of Tyrol’s most photographed summer spots. The Olperer Huette viewpoint bridge above the reservoir requires a 1.5-hour hike and rewards it. Access via toll road from Mayrhofen (approximately EUR 15 per car); no public transport. Road open approximately June to October. Check current road conditions at zillertal.at before driving up.
