waterfall in Obergurgl-Hochgurgl

Rotmoos Wasserfall

A waterfall on the Rotmoos stream above Obergurgl in the upper Oetztal, at an altitude where the surrounding landscape is already high alpine: sparse vegetation, snowfields into summer, and the sense of being genuinely above the tree line.

The Rotmoos Wasserfall above Obergurgl is part of a 2-4 hour walk through the high alpine Rotmoos valley at over 2,000 meters elevation. The route is accessible without technical equipment from Obergurgl village, which sits at 1,930 meters as Austria’s highest church village. Free access, best in summer (June-August) for maximum water flow. Carry warm layers at this altitude regardless of summer temperatures.
