The Rollfaehre at Spitz crosses the Danube to Arnsdorf using the river current as its only power: a cable holds the flat boat at an angle and the flow pushes it sideways across. An Olafur Eliasson camera obscura installation is attached to the ferry house on the Spitz side. Seasonal operation April-October; check spitz-wachau.at for schedule and current crossing fee. Combine with the Ruine Hinterhaus above the village for a full morning in one of the quieter Wachau stops.
