Preseren Square

Preseren Square is Ljubljana's central gathering place, anchored by the 1905 bronze statue of France Preseren, Slovenia's national poet, facing the pink Franciscan Church of the Annunciation at the foot of the Triple Bridge. The square is not large but it functions as the social and navigational center of the city.

Preseren wrote in Slovenian when German was the language of educated Ljubljana; his poem Zdravljica became the national anthem. The square is the natural starting point for old town exploration. Always open and free. Surrounded by cafes; the terrace on the bridge gives the best view back across the square.
