The Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Hoehe (2,369 m) is the primary viewpoint for the Pasterze Glacier on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, giving a direct view of Austria’s longest glacier flowing from the Grossglockner summit at 3,798 m. Named after Franz Joseph I’s 1856 visit, the platform includes a funicular descent to the current glacier edge and recession markers showing the ice’s retreat since 1856. Grossglockner road toll approximately EUR 38 per car. Open May to November. Arrive early to avoid peak coach traffic. The recession markers are among the most direct climate documentation in Austria.
