Offensee

The Offensee is a small mountain lake above Ebensee in the Salzkammergut, set under the limestone cliffs of the Totes Gebirge plateau with no boat service and almost no visitor infrastructure. Free access; 1.5 hours on foot from the valley road. By train to Ebensee from Attnang-Puchheim; by car into the Offenseebach valley. The answer to “where do locals go to escape the main Salzkammergut lakes”; cold, clear, and dramatically positioned.
