The Obergurgler Zirbenwald is a stand of Swiss stone pines (Zirben) above Obergurgl designated as a natural monument since 1963, with individual trees over 300 years old. Free; accessible on foot from the village. Obergurgl is at 1,930m at the end of the Ötztal, 2.5 hours from Innsbruck. The Swiss stone pine is the slowest-growing conifer in the Alps; a 300-year-old tree here was a seedling in the early 1700s.
