The Nockalmstrasse is a 35-kilometer toll road through the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve in Carinthia, reaching 2,049 meters at the Windebensee summit. The Nockberge mountains are geologically ancient, with the rounded, soft-silhouette character that distinguishes them from the sharper limestone ranges elsewhere in Austria. The road passes alpine meadows, Almen (summer farms), and the Silva Magica sculpture trail in the forest. The Windebensee lake at the summit is a 15-minute walk from the highest parking point. Open May to October. Toll approximately EUR 20 per car. Access by car only; no public transport on the road. Connect from Innerkrems (north) or Turracher Hoehe (south).
