The Naturpark Oetztal covers the upper Otztal valley in Tyrol, from Obergurgl (Austria’s highest permanently inhabited village at 1,907 meters) to the Italian border. The valley holds the Similaun ridge, where Otzi the Iceman, a 5,300-year-old glacier mummy, was found in 1991. Year-round skiing at Solden uses the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers; the Otztal Glacier Road climbs to over 2,600 meters. Bus from Innsbruck to Obergurgl takes about 2 hours, connecting from Otztal Bahnhof on the main rail line. Free park access.
