Naturmuseum Salzkammergut

The Naturmuseum Salzkammergut in Ebensee’s Langwies district covers the geology, ecology, and natural history of the Salzkammergut lake region. The museum provides scientific context for one of Austria’s most geologically complex regions: Alpine limestone formations, glacial lake systems, and the ancient Tethys Sea salt deposits that gave the region its name and 3,000 years of economic history. Ebensee sits at the southern end of the Traunsee, Austria’s deepest lake at 191 meters. The museum is reachable by train on the Salzkammergut railway. Check naturmuseum.at for current hours.
