Natur Eis Palast

At 3,250 meters inside the Hintertux Glacier, a mountain guide discovered a cave system in 2007 that nobody knew existed. It contains natural ice formations including stalactites, frozen waterfalls, and a subglacial lake deep enough for a short boat ride.

The Natur Eis Palast is a natural ice cave inside the Hintertux Glacier at 3,250 meters, discovered in 2007 during glacier maintenance work. It contains ice stalactites, frozen waterfalls, and a subglacial lake with a short boat ride. The temperature inside is around -2 degrees Celsius year-round. The cave is accessible only via the Hintertux Glacier cable car system at the head of the Zillertal. Hintertux is the only year-round skiing glacier in Austria, so the cable car infrastructure runs in all seasons. Entry is included with the glacier day ticket (approximately EUR 60 adult). Plan a full day. Bus from Mayrhofen to Hintertux, then cable car to the glacier.
