The Nationalparkwelten Mittersill is the main visitor center for the Hohe Tauern National Park’s Salzburg section, serving as the interpretive gateway to Austria’s largest protected alpine area (1,856 sq km). Check hohetauern.at for hours and admission. Mittersill is on the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn from Zell am See (1.5 hrs from Salzburg on the main line). Best combined with the Krimml Waterfalls or Grossvenediger approach trails.
