Mozarthaus Vienna at Domgasse 5, directly behind the Stephansdom, is the only surviving apartment from Mozart’s Vienna decade. He lived here from 1784 to 1787, composing The Marriage of Figaro and the string quartets dedicated to Haydn. The museum covers three floors with exhibitions on his Vienna social world, Masonic connections, and musical partnerships. Allow 1 to 1.5 hours; U-Bahn Stephansplatz for direct access. Of the eleven apartments Mozart occupied during his decade in Vienna, this is the only one that survived. He lived at Domgasse 5 from 1784 to 1787 in the grandest, most expensive apartment he ever rented, and composed The Marriage of Figaro here, working with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte who lived nearby.
