Metelkova City is a former Habsburg and Yugoslav military barracks in Ljubljana occupied by activists and artists in 1993 and developed into the city’s main alternative cultural center. It holds several clubs, galleries, artist studios, and two national museums on the same block at Metelkova ulica 6. The complex is 10 minutes on foot from Ljubljana’s train station and the Old Town. Most active Thursday through Saturday evenings; daytime visits work for the museums. Access to the grounds is free.
