Ljubljana Castle on its hilltop above the old town has been the focal point of the city since the 12th century, when it was the administrative seat of the Duchy of Carniola under Habsburg rule. Funicular from the market square (EUR 4 return) or 15-minute uphill walk. Free grounds; tower and museum entry approx. EUR 10-15. The free terrace view is the essential stop.
