Lienzer Dolomiten

The Austrian extension of the Dolomite range, rising directly above Lienz to 2,780 meters with pale limestone faces that glow orange at sunset. Cable cars run seasonally from near the city center for hiking access; skiing in winter on the same infrastructure. The Hochstein ridge is the most accessible target with a panoramic view back across Lienz and the Hohe Tauern to the north. Train to Lienz from Innsbruck or Villach.
