Austria’s only lighthouse stands on the Neusiedlersee, a steppe lake averaging 1.8 meters deep in eastern Burgenland. The lake is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe’s premier windsurfing venues, with consistent Pannonian winds over flat warm water. The lighthouse itself is a free external-view attraction in Podersdorf, the main beach village. Combine with the lake cycling path (130 km full loop) and the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt.

Leuchtturm Podersdorf
A lighthouse at Podersdorf on the Neusiedlersee, which makes it something of a geographical joke: the Neusiedlersee is a landlocked steppe lake in eastern Burgenland averaging only 1.8 meters deep.
