Podersdorf am See has the only reed-free beach on the Neusiedler See, which makes it the primary swimming and water sports destination on Austria’s shallow steppe lake. The open shoreline supports a well-developed windsurfing and kitesurfing scene driven by the reliable Pannonian winds. Hotels line the waterfront and fill fast in summer. The village sits on the eastern shore, accessible by bus from Neusiedl am See (about 20 minutes) or by car from Vienna in roughly 70 km. It connects to the 120km lake cycling circuit. Wine production in the village adds a local dimension beyond water sports. Weekends in July and August are busy; plan accordingly.

Almost every other village on the Neusiedler See is separated from the water by a reed belt that can stretch hundreds of meters. Podersdorf is the exception: here the shore is open and you can walk straight into the lake.
