Memorial at the site of a Mauthausen subcamp that used forced labor to excavate a tunnel network for armament production in the Salzkammergut mountains. Of 27,000 prisoners held here from 1943 to liberation in May 1945, approximately 8,500 died. The tunnel system is preserved and open for guided tours seasonally. KZ-Gedenkstätte Ebensee
The KZ-Gedenkstätte Ebensee is a memorial at the site of a Mauthausen subcamp in the Salzkammergut, at the southern end of the Traunsee in Upper Austria. The Ebensee camp, opened in November 1943, used prisoner labor to excavate a tunnel network intended to house rocket production and armament plants protected from Allied air attack.
