The most remote lake in the Styrian Salzkammergut’s three-lake chain (Grundlsee, Toplitzsee, Kammersee), accessible only by boat across the Toplitzsee and a short walk. Sits at the base of the Totes Gebirge (Dead Mountains) limestone cliffs in a dramatically enclosed landscape. Half-day trip from Grundlsee. The middle lake, Toplitzsee, is the site where SS personnel allegedly sank forged British currency and other materials in April 1945, a history that has produced multiple recovery expeditions since the 1950s.

Kammersee
The Kammersee is the third and most remote lake in the Ausseerland three-lake chain: Grundlsee, Toplitzsee, and Kammersee connect through narrow waterways and walking paths, with the Kammersee accessible only by boat across the Toplitzsee and a short walk, making it the least visited and most isolated of the three.
