Grundlsee is the starting point for the three-lake circuit: a boat across the Grundlsee leads to a short walk reaching the Toplitzsee, a dark, cliff-ringed lake where Nazi SS units dumped crates of forged banknotes and documents at the end of World War II. A further 30-minute walk reaches the innermost Kammersee. Allow 3-4 hours for the full circuit. About 10 minutes from Bad Aussee by car. Limited overnight accommodation in the village; most visitors come as a day trip from Bad Aussee or Altaussee.
