The Hofburgkapelle is the Gothic chapel inside the Hofburg’s Schweizerhof courtyard where the Vienna Boys’ Choir has performed Sunday Mass since 1498. The choir, organized by Emperor Maximilian I, is one of the world’s oldest continuously operating musical institutions. Schubert sang here as a boy. Sunday Mass runs approximately 9:15 from September through June (no choir in July and August). Tickets EUR 10-29; book directly at hofburgkapelle.gv.at well in advance. Free standing room, very limited. Metro U3 to Herrengasse. This is a liturgical Mass, not a concert: the choir sings the service accompanied by Vienna Philharmonic musicians in a 13th-century vaulted chapel.
