The Haus des Meeres in Vienna’s 6th district is an aquarium and tropical house built inside a World War II Flakturm (anti-aircraft tower) in Esterhazypark, one of six such towers built across Vienna in 1942-1944 that proved too massive to demolish after the war. Over 10,000 animals across multiple floors, from sharks and sea turtles to free-roaming marmosets and tropical birds.
