Hauptplatz Lienz

Lienz's Hauptplatz has the Liebburg, a 16th-century Renaissance palace now serving as the town hall, as its visual anchor, and the surrounding peaks of the Dolomites rising on three sides.

Lienz’s Hauptplatz has the Renaissance Liebburg (now town hall) as its backdrop and Dolomite peaks rising on three sides. Friday and Saturday markets bring South Tyrolean vendors across the Italian border. Lienz is East Tyrol’s capital, geographically surrounded by Italy since the 1919 post-WWI settlement; the Felbertauern tunnel (1967) gave it its first direct year-round land connection to North Tyrol. Always accessible, free. Lienz is on the rail line from Innsbruck or accessible by car from Salzburg via the Drau valley.
