Griechenbeisl in Vienna’s first district has been a restaurant since 1447, making it the oldest in the city. Three Ottoman cannonballs from the 1529 Siege of Vienna are still embedded in an interior wall. A room upstairs holds signatures from Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Wagner, Mark Twain, and Egon Schiele among many others. The menu is traditional Viennese: Tafelspitz (boiled beef), Zwiebelrostbraten (roast beef with onions), Apfelstrudel. Prices are moderate to expensive (main courses around EUR 25-40) and the restaurant is well aware of its tourist appeal.
