The Granatkapelle at 2,087 meters in the Zillertal Alps is a chapel designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta (completed 2013), a cylindrical stone building cut by an angled glass band that brings in mountain light and glacier views. It sits on a ridge accessible via the Penkenbahn cable car from Mayrhofen and is open to anyone regardless of religion. Free; cable car ticket required to reach it. Mayrhofen is at the end of the Zillertalbahn narrow-gauge railway from Jenbach on the Innsbruck to Salzburg line. The building is worth five minutes of attention as architecture; the ridge views are worth the whole trip.
