The Zillertal is a major Tyrolean side valley running 65 kilometers south from the Inn valley at Jenbach to the Hintertux Glacier, the only year-round skiing glacier in Tyrol. Four ski areas (Mayrhofen-Penken, Zillertal Arena, Hochzillertal, Hintertux) cover the valley’s terrain. The Zillertalbahn narrow-gauge railway connects all valley towns from Jenbach to Mayrhofen, with steam excursions in summer. Jenbach is 45 minutes from Innsbruck by train. Mayrhofen at the valley head is the main resort; Zell am Ziller and Fuegen are quieter mid-valley alternatives. The Zillertal Superskipass covers all four areas. Plan 5-7 days in winter to explore the full valley; the Hintertux Glacier extends the season well into spring and is accessible for glacier hiking in summer.
