The Gozzoburg in Krems is a 13th-century Gothic merchant’s palace with original wall paintings that survived essentially intact, making it one of the best-preserved examples of medieval secular domestic architecture in Austria. Built around 1275 by the merchant Gozzo von Krems, whose trading wealth came from the Danube salt and wine routes. Accessible by guided tour only; book in advance at gozzoburg.at.
