promenade in Gmunden

Esplanade Gmunden

A chestnut-lined lakeside promenade along the Traunsee from the Rathausplatz to the Strandbad. The main walking experience in Gmunden, with benches, lake views, and the Traunstein mountain across the water. The Esplanade connects all the key waterfront points of Gmunden, including the Seeschloss Ort on its island just offshore.

The Esplanade in Gmunden is the main lakeside promenade along the Traunsee, developed as formal spa-town infrastructure in the late 19th century. Chestnut-lined, free, and always accessible, it connects the Rathausplatz to the Strandbad bathing area with views of the Traunstein mountain (1,691 m) across Austria’s deepest lake. The Seeschloss Ort on its island is visible from the promenade and reachable via a short footbridge. Gmunden is served by rail from Attnang-Puchheim on the Salzkammergutbahn.
