Egon Schiele Art Centrum

Egon Schiele's mother Marie came from Cesky Krumlov, and the artist visited repeatedly, painting the town's rooftops and river bends in a way that made them part of his visual vocabulary.

The Egon Schiele Art Centrum in Cesky Krumlov occupies a converted Renaissance brewery in the old town, a few minutes on foot from anywhere in the center. Schiele’s mother came from here, and his paintings of the town’s rooftops are among his most distinctive landscapes. The gallery rotates Schiele originals alongside temporary exhibitions of 20th-century Central European art, contextualizing him within the Viennese Expressionist world of Klimt and Kokoschka. Entry around EUR 10-12; open daily 10am-6pm. The strongest cultural stop in Cesky Krumlov after the castle.
