The Belvedere Palace complex in Vienna was built for Prince Eugene of Savoy between 1714 and 1723, and now houses Austria’s most visited artwork: Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss.” The Upper Belvedere also contains the Marble Hall where the Austrian State Treaty was signed in 1955, restoring sovereignty after the Second World War. Entry around EUR 22; open daily 9am-6pm. Book tickets online at belvedere.at to avoid queues. Take tram D or 71 from central Vienna. Allow at least 2 hours. The formal gardens between the two palace buildings are free to enter.
