The Barmsteine are twin limestone rock towers above Hallein known locally as the “Halleiner Ohrwaschl” (the ears of Hallein). A short hike from the town center gives views over the Salzach valley toward the Untersberg. Free and always accessible. Allow 1-2 hours. Reach Hallein by regional train from Salzburg (15 minutes), then walk or take a short bus to the trailhead. Combine with the Keltenmuseum Hallein and the Bad Dürrnberg salt mine for a full half-day excursion.
