The Ankogelbahn cable car runs from Mallnitz (1,200m) to 3,252m in two stages, rising over 2,000 metres into the Hohe Tauern glacier terrain. Check ankogel.at for current operating schedule and fares. Mallnitz is reached via the Tauernbahn car-shuttle tunnel from Bad Gastein (Böckstein) on the north side. The quieter alternative to the busier Grossglockner and Zell am See area entries into the national park; serious alpine hiking territory above the top station.
