The Almer Wallfahrt is an alpine pilgrimage route crossing the Steinernes Meer plateau above Maria Alm, a bare limestone karst landscape at 2,000 to 2,500 meters. The route connects valley communities across the plateau to the pilgrimage church at Alm, following a tradition that predates modern hiking tourism. Free walking route accessible July to September. Full day from Maria Alm; solid footwear and weather awareness required. Maria Alm is about 70 km south of Salzburg; car or summer bus. Combine with the Hochkonig massif trails for a multi-day alpine area.
