Aguntum was the only Roman municipality in Tyrol, sitting on the Drau valley floor 3 km east of Lienz. The site has a bath complex, town house walls, and a museum with jewelry and household objects from ongoing excavations. Open May to October, Tuesday to Sunday; adults around EUR 7-9. Lienz is reachable by train from both Innsbruck and Villach. Combine with a day in Lienz, which has good access to the Lienzer Dolomiten hiking area immediately above the town.
