3-Seen-Tour / Schifffahrt Grundlsee

Three lakes sit at different elevations in the Ausseerland and are linked only on foot and by small boat. The 3-Seen-Tour connects them: a boat across the Grundlsee, a short portage on foot to the Toplitzsee, a second boat across that lake, then a walk to the Kammersee at the far end. The Toplitzsee is the reason most people come.

The 3-Seen-Tour links three alpine lakes at progressively higher elevations in the Ausseerland: boat across the Grundlsee, short walk to the Toplitzsee, second boat, then a walk to the small Kammersee at the end. It takes a half day minimum. The Toplitzsee is the main draw: the lake’s anoxic lower layers famously preserved SS wartime crates of counterfeit British banknotes dumped in 1945 and found by divers in 1959. Boats run May to October from Grundlsee village, about 10 km from Bad Aussee. Tickets are around EUR 8-12 per boat leg. Combine with a day in the Ausseerland, which has salt mine history, the Altaussee lake, and traditional Ausseer Tracht culture that sets it apart from the rest of the Salzkammergut.
