The Wörthersee Strandbad at Velden is the western anchor of the lake’s resort strip, where the Schloss Velden hotel frames the town center and the organized bathing areas on the lakefront have been running summer operations since the late Habsburg era. The lake water reaches 28 degrees in August. Strandbad entry is approximately EUR 5-8; some free lakefront access is available outside the organized zones. Velden is 30 minutes from Klagenfurt by car; bus and boat connections in summer. The Velden lakefront is more social and more resort-oriented than the eastern end of the lake near Klagenfurt: more promenade density, more evening activity, the casino nearby. If you want the Wörthersee at its most organized and social, Velden is the place. For quieter water, try the north shore near Pörtschach or the off-peak months of May and September.

Woerthersee Strandbad
Velden's lakefront is the western anchor of the Wörthersee resort strip, with the most concentrated version of the lake's Strandbad (organized bathing area) culture: wooden jetties projecting into 26-28 degree water, parasols on the grass, and the castle-hotel backdrop of the Schloss Velden framing the town center.
