Wolfgangsee Strandbad / Naturstrand Wasswiese

The Naturstrand Wasswiese at Strobl is the free natural swimming area on the eastern Wolfgangsee, a grassy meadow shore directly on the lake without facilities beyond what the lake itself provides. It is the contrast case to the organized Strandbad culture of the more developed lake towns: no entry fee, no changing cabins, no boat rental kiosk.

The lake reaches 24 degrees in July-August and the water quality is excellent, among the best in the Salzkammergut. The Schafberg is visible across the water to the west. Bring your own food and towels; this is a local beach rather than a resort facility. Strobl is 50 minutes by bus from Salzburg. Weekday mornings are significantly quieter than weekend afternoons in peak summer. Combine with the Wolfgangsee boat service for a morning swim followed by an afternoon boat trip to St. Wolfgang.
